Grilled Rice-Triangles Recipe (Yaki-Onigiri)

This recipes is a very popular snack in Japan, which you can easily make at home for your next dinner party as an easy finger food.

130g fresh lotus roots
40ml sunflower oil
10ml sesame oil
pinch salt
300g sushi rice
40ml soy sauce
15ml mirin
1/2 tsp salt
270ml water
5g kombu
1 tbsp white sesame seeds

Steps

Prepare the lotus root chips:
Preheat the oven NN-DS59 to 220 degrees.

Mix the sunflower oil and sesame oil in a bowl and soak the lotus root slices. Place on the grill tray and bake in the oven at 220 degrees for 15 minutes.

Take out of the oven, place on kitchen paper. Salt lightly.

Prepare the rice:
Wash the rice, leave to soak in a sieve for approx. 20 min. Mix the water, soy sauce, mirin and sesame oil in a container. It should be 330 ml in total. Put the rice, soy sauce-water mixture, salt and kombu seaweed in a pot, stir once, then cook as usual.

Form and grill the rice:
Form cooked rice into large firm rice triangles.
Place on the grill tray. Grill in the NN-DS59 on Combi1 (grill + microwave) for 10 minutes.

Serve the rice triangles with lotus chips.
