Honey has a very long shelf life and offers you many healthy ingredients, some with antibacterial effects. By the way, this natural sweetener is not always the same. Depending on which plants the bees visit, it can have different colours and consistencies – and ultimately also a different taste. For those who count calories: One teaspoon has about 20 calories and replaces one tablespoon of sugar.

Can honey go bad? Normally not, but if there are foreign objects such as butter or bread crumbs in the jar, the honey will not spoil directly, but the butter will go rancid and the bread may become mouldy. So be sure you always use an extra spoon to get the delicious honey in the jar.

You can get regionally produced honey almost everywhere in Germany, often directly from the beekeeper. Keep your eyes open: Regional honey is often available at weekly markets or local organic markets.
Honey is not a vegan product.
In general, honey is not considered vegan. This is because it is produced by animals – honey bees. Even though this reflects the natural behaviour of bees, the natural product is not vegan. Of course, this has nothing to do with healthy or unhealthy, but most vegans still avoid honey and beeswax.
