Volume & Weight Conversion for Recipe Ingredients

Volume & Weight Conversion for Recipe Ingredients

Any method of cooking, whether baking (especially important), making souffles, pastry or sauces, requires reliable information to make your dishes the success they deserve to be. Whilst many recipes allow for a sprinkle of flexibility with ingredient measurements, there are times when accuracy is required. This could be when you must focus on smaller, yet more precise amounts of critically important ingredients or when you are working with larger quantities; getting measurements wrong here can really ruin a recipe.
Converting measurements can leave us scratching our heads at times and even guessing the amounts to use in the recipe. It is now that you need an accurate volume conversion to ensure the recipe turns out exactly as you want it. Whilst there is a slight amount of leeway, the wrong conversions will affect your recipe dishes, i.e. too much liquid or not enough liquid, or the inaccurate combination of wet and dry goods.
In order to make the process of converting measurements a lot simpler, we have created the following cooking conversion charts for you to use to compare volume and weight measurements and ensure you achieve the perfect results.

Key Volume Conversions

1 teaspoon = 5 millilitres
1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons = 15 millilitres
1 fluid oz. = 2 tablespoons = 30 millilitres
½ cup = 4 fluid oz. = 120 millilitres
1 cup = 8 fluid oz. = 240 millilitres
1 litre = 4.2 cups / 2.1 pints / 34 fluid oz. = 1000 millilitres
1 gallon = 15.96 cups / 7.98 pints / 129.2 fluid oz = 3758 millilitres

There is nothing that will deter you more from trying a new recipe than when you can’t figure out what quantities you’re supposed to be using. The challenge should be in perfecting the flavours, textures, and experience of the food you’re creating; not deciphering the ingredients list.
We hope these tables help make measurement conversions simplistically seamless, allowing you to focus on the recipe itself and the people you’re making it for!
