Add a little savoire-vivre to your table with this French Onion Soup recipe. Intense flavour for lunch or dinner, starter or meal.

Adjust Servings:
225g onions sliced
50g butter
25g flour
1 litre hot beef stock
salt
pepper
bay leaf
To Serve:
French bread
25g grated cheese

Steps

Place onions and butter in large Pyrex® caserole dish, cover and cook on the base of the oven on 1000 W for 2-3 minutes or until softened.

Stir in flour, gradually add the hot stock, stirring well. Season and add bay leaf. Re-cover and cook on 1000 W for 8-10 minutes. Remove bay leaf.

Place the bread on wire shelf in the upper shelf position and Grill 1 for 3-4 minutes until lightly toasted. Turn over and top with grated cheese. Cook on Grill 1 for another 3 minutes or until cheese melts.

Ladle soup into individual serving dishes and float a piece of French bread on the top of each serving.
